Author Debbie Allen (2003), a famous choreographer, wrote the book Dancing in the wings is geared toward grades K-2. It is about an African American girl who wants to dance but is to tall and gangly. Author Crockett Johnson book, Harold and the Purple Crayon, is a cute story about a boy who creates his own world with a purple crayon. The story is full of word play and a reminder of the importance of creativity and imagination of children.
